What is a Thai massage?
Thai Massage, also known as Thai Yoga Massage, is a treatment where your therapist moves your body through various poses and stretches and treats various pressure points and energy lines. You are fully clothed, and treatment is normally applied without the use of oil.
What are the benefits of Thai massage?
There are many possible benefits of Thai Massage depending on your goals. Popular goals are to relieve tension and improve balance, energy, and focus. Thai Massage can leave you feeling both relaxed and energized as your muscles are stretched, pressure points relieve specific tight spots, and your body moves through various yoga-like postures.
What areas of the body does a Thai massage include?
Thai Massage can focus on specific areas or the full body. Your RMT will check in with you before your treatment to learn about your goals and comfort levels. Even though you are clothed, there tends to be more physical contact between therapist and patient in Thai Massage as the therapist picks you up and moves you through postures. For this reason, it is important that your comfort and boundaries are firmly understood before treatment begins.
What are the benefits of Thai massage vs deep tissue?
Thai Massage and Deep Tissue can have many of the same benefits. With pressure point and energy line work, your Thai Massage Therapist directly works into many of the same areas that they would treat during deep tissue massage. Yoga-like Thai stretching techniques can address all layers of your muscles, so this can also offer benefits that are similar to deep tissue work.
What is a Thai foot massage? Does Thai foot massage hurt?

It is designed to relieve tension, improve balance and energy levels, and it can leave you with a feeling or relaxed and even energy. Please make sure to let your RMT know if you feel pain at any point during your treatment so they can modify their approach.
Are Thai massages painful?
There should be no real pain during a Thai Massage but there may be some mildly challenging moments while tense muscles are stretched, and there can be some mild “satisfying” pain during deep pressure point work. You RMT should always encourage you to let them know if anything feels particularly uncomfortable or painful so they can modify their approach.
Does Thai massage use oil?
Thai massage normally does not include oil. You are fully clothed, and instead of the gliding techniques used in Swedish massage, hands-on pressure by your RMT is applied to specific pressure points in Thai massage.

Note that there are Thai Massage practitioners in Toronto who are not Regulated Health Professionals under a provincial college, so your insurance will probably not cover your treatment with those practitioners. All Thai Massage Therapists at Zazen are Regulated Health Professionals, so your massage insurance plan will likely cover your treatment.
